Fountain Valley Man Victim of Fatal Head-On Collision

May 2, 2012–A head-on collision between a Toyota pickup and a Honda van proved fatal for 47-year-old Martin Moreno of Fountain Valley on Wednesday evening, according to the Orange County Register.

Moreno was traveling south on the 405 freeway near Bolsa Chica Road when an unidentified driver plowed into the front of his vehicle, killing him instantly. The other driver was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

No charges have been filed but authorities state that the Santa Ana auto accident is under investigation.

A witness stated that she saw a driver in a van just before the crash “driving like a maniac” and feels it was the van involved in the crash. The witness stated that the man was driving at least 60 miles per hour and cut her off in traffic near Westminster Boulevard. Authorities have stated that they received several witness reports to this effect about the van after the accident.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, at least 40 percent of all vehicle crashes are associated with drunken driving, while 30 percent are the result of speeding. What Happened in This Accident

It is not clear from the news sources at this point if the “reckless driver” witnessed by several people was the driver involved in the crash, although it seems likely that this is the case. There is no word on whether alcohol was a factor in the crash at this time.
